The Protect-A-Card TM is a slim, convenient and simple to use Radio Frequency ID protection system that will protect your Contactless Debit/Credit cards form fraudulent data acquisition and Card Clash with Oyster Cards.  Our solution is a thin card and NOT a wallet or sleeve so there is no need to suffer the inconvenience of continuously inserting  and removing cards into and out of sleeves.

Contactless RFID chips (as used in contactless payment cards) can be read remotely (from a distance of up to 5 feet) without authorisation and without any indication that they are being read.

The Protect-A-Card TM (Contactless Card Protector) from KeyReels effectively blocks RFID signals sent to readers or smartphones by fraudsters who attempt to illegally steal personal information stored on your credentials.

Simply place the Protect-A-Card TM in your wallet alongside your contactless card and you are protected against digital robbery and accidental payment (works if your contactless card protector is in contact with your contactless card.

 What is Card Clash?

If you touch your purse or wallet containing your Oyster card and a contactless payment card on a reader you could experience card clash.

If you touch your Oyster card on a yellow card reader when it's in the same wallet or purse as another contactless card, the reader may detect more than one card. When this happens, the card reader doesn't know which one to read. This means:

·      It doesn't know which card to take payment from.

·      If you get a green light it could take payment from a card that you did not intend to pay with.

·      If you get a red light it means you won't have paid for your journey.

·      If you are at a ticket gate, it may not open.

·      If you are at a station, you could be charged two maximum fares for your journey. This happens when a reader charges one card when you touch in and another card when you touch out.

The Protect-A-Card TM inserted into your wallet and touching your contactless payment card will alleviate this problem.

 What is fraudulent data theft?

Holders of contactless bank cards could be exposed to the risk of fraud as thieves can use scanners to steal account details, experts warn.

Thieves could exploit a security flaw to steal key data from contactless debit and credit cards even when they are in the holder's wallet. Tests show that thieves armed with scanners can capture the numbers and expiry dates on the cards and use them for online purchases.

So are contactless cards safe – and if you use them how can you help protect yourself against fraud?

Contactless card use is soaring according to data - but an investigation has showed they have potential security flaws.

How is the data stolen?

Contactless or 'tap and pay' cards do not need a pin number. Instead, they have a tiny antenna that links with a till terminal through near-field communication, or NFC.

The technology means that a payment is taken if the card is placed on or hovered over the till terminal. However, a scanner held nearby can intercept this NFC data. It can read the card number and expiry date from the card.

Once thieves have this information they are free to clone your card and start using that cloned card for fraudulent transactions.

The Protect-A-Card TM inserted into your wallet and touching your contactless payment card will alleviate this problem.
